Adam Falkenstein

Adam Falkenstein ( born September 17, 1906 in Planegg, † October 16, 1966 in Heidelberg ) was a German Assyriologist.

Life

Falkenstein studied Assyriology in Munich and Leipzig. It dealt primarily with the cuneiform, especially with the finds of Uruk and with the Sumerians and their language. From 1930 Falkenstein taught as an adjunct professor of Assyriology at the University of Göttingen. In 1939 he joined the NSDAP. In 1940 he took a teaching position at the University of Heidelberg true as professor of Semitic languages. In 1941, he flew with Fritz Grobba to Baghdad, as Mohammed Amin al -Husseini and Rashid Ali al - Gailani pro-Nazi coup there a short-term, supported out of the realm of arms deliveries organized. After that, he was employed in the diplomatic service in Turkey. From 1939 to 1944 he was the editor of the trade journal " Oriental Literary Gazette ".
