Adam Oehlenschläger

Adam Gottlob Oehlenschläger ( born November 14, 1779 Vesterbro, Copenhagen, † January 20, 1850 ) was a Danish national poet of romance. He was from 1810 until his death professor of aesthetics at the University of Copenhagen and served twice as rector.

Work

In 1803 he edited the volume Digte ( poems [ seals ] ) containing various literary forms, such as the now famous poem Guldhornene ( The Gold Horns), which is considered the beginning of the Danish romance, and the closet drama St. Hansaften - Spel. He was strongly influenced by Henrich Steffens, who is said to have converted him according to legend, in a 16- hour conversation to romance, and of contemporary currents from Jena to Schelling.

In 1805 he published his most famous work, the over 900 -page Poetiske Skrifter ( poetic writings ) in two volumes, which are considered the biggest testimony of Danish romanticism.

In his works after 1805 he turned from the Romantic transcendental- Romantic style of German classicism and from what is hinted at already in the 2nd volume of Poetiske Skrifter. On the other hand he reached greater use of elements of Norse mythology that he worked primarily in dramatic form.

In turning to the German classical Oehlenschläger began his Danish -language literary works regularly translated into German and it should be written in German language. Thus, in addition to the Danish work Oehlenschläger exists a full German work which he himself later for two editions of her work again edited (1829 /30 and 1839). On August 17, 1844 Adam Oehlenschläger was admitted as a foreign member of the Prussian Order pour le Merite for Arts and Science.

In 1819 he wrote the patriotic song, which was known under the name of The He et yndigt country as the national anthem of Denmark.

On December 15, 1815 Oehlenschläger play Aladdin eller was the forunderlige lamp, in which a mother Ludlam living in a cave premiered in Vienna. This was where the reason for the founding of the literary society Ludlamshöhle that existed from 1819 to 1826. It was up to its ban on the most famous meeting place for actors, singers, musicians and scholars of Biedermeier Vienna.

In 1953, the Oehlenschläger lane facility in Vienna was named after the poet.
