Adam Pengilly

Adam Laird Pengilly ( born October 14, 1977 in Taunton ) is a former British Skeleton pilot.

Career

Adam Pengilly came in November 2002 for the first time in an international race. When America's Cup race in Lake Placid, he finished second behind Brian McDonald. In 2004 he won the bronze medal at the British Championships. The Skeleton Euro 2004 in Altenberg, he came on the 13th Place. Things went better at the next European Championship, where he finished fifth at the same place. He also won the silver medal at the British Championships. Meanwhile Pengilly had celebrated his debut in the Skeleton World Cup in November 2004. In a race in Altenberg, he came on the 21th Place. For the first time among the top ten when he came pre-Olympic race in Turin. There in 2005 he was ninth.

In the Universiade 2005 Pengilly could win the silver medal behind Christopher Hedquist. Then he also started at his first Skeleton World Cup in Calgary 15, he also won at the British Championships in 2005 behind Kristan Bromley silver, 2006, Pengilly win the title. The highlight of the season was Pengillys participation in the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, where he finished in eighth place. Particularly successful was the post-Olympic season 2006/07. In Nagano, Park City and Cesana, he finished fifth places, as well in the overall standings of the World Cup. At the World Championships in St. Moritz, the athlete was ninth, at the European Championships in Koenigssee seventh. In the 2007 /08 season he reached in Cesana third place for the first time a podium finish in the World Cup, in parallel discharged European Championships he won bronze. In the overall World Cup standings, he finished fifth. At the World Championships in Altenberg, he was tenth. In the 2008/2009 season he first started out in the World Cup, and later in the European Cup and finally in the Intercontinental, where he won a race. At the World Championships in Lake Placid, he won silver.

Pengilly participated in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver in part, came after four runs but only on rank 18. In the season 2010/11 he started only two World Cup races, but was able to celebrate in the Intercontinental with two wins success.

Since 2010 Pengilly is a member of the International Olympic Committee and member of the Athletes' Commission of the British Olympic Association. In March 2012 he retired from professional racing, and until the end of the year board member of the LOCOG, which organized the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
