Adamstown, Pitcairn Islands

Adamstown is the second smallest capital in the world and the only settlement on Pitcairn Island in the Pacific ( British overseas territory ) in 40 (2007) of 61 inhabitants (2011) live on the island. Named after John Adams, the place is also known as Alexander Smith, one of the mutineers of the Bounty. The town has grown from the first settlement of the Bounty mutineers who landed on January 20, 1790 on Pitcairn Island. It is applied in the form of a loosened scattered settlement, with larger spaces between the houses. The houses are all simple, one-story residential buildings, built in post and beam construction of wood, with a roof of corrugated iron. As the population decreases steadily, as are many of the now empty about three dozen homes. The place is accessible by unpaved roads and footpaths, paved roads do not exist.
