John Adams (mutineer)

John Adams ( * November 4, 1766, † March 5, 1829 on Pitcairn ), who hired Smith as Alexander on the Bounty, Fletcher Christian is next to the most famous of the mutineers on the Bounty and intellectual founding father of Pitcairner community.

Life

In January 1790, John Adams arrived with eight other mutineers of the Bounty and several Polynesians to Pitcairn, where they wanted to settle permanently. But lawlessness, murder and jealousy soon prevailed on the island and decimated the population. As Christmas 1800 Edward Young died of asthma, John Adams was the only surviving adult man on the island next ten Polynesian women and 23 children. He began to take Christianity seriously and to manage the island's population according to its principles. When the island was rediscovered by England, was recognized these achievements of the man at that again now called John Adams, and pardoned him. In this way, John Adams eventually became the spiritual founding father of Pitcairner.

He died of natural causes on March 5, 1829 on Pitcairn and is buried there next to the Polynesian women on the outskirts of Adamstown.

According to him, the only place of settlement was named on Pitcairn, Adamstown.
