Adaptive control

Adaptive control is in control technology called a control, which can adjust its parameters to the process.

The adaptive control is used as a normal control can only compensate for relatively small changes in the process dynamics. Therefore, there is the adaptive control for large, slow changes, where a static controller can no longer perform satisfactorily. Examples include supersonic aircraft whose behavior can change considerably in each Mach, as unknown or changing delays or disorders.

Classification

Typical of the progress of the adaptation are the identification that can be done indirectly or directly, and the decision-making process that changes the adjustable parameters during the process of a modification level.

The difference of the following adaptive schemes consists in the different realizations of the 3 steps. The adaptive control systems can be in terms of their mode of action and its design principle here divided into three basic structures.

Controlled adaptation with parallel comparison model ( p.137 )

The behavior of the real process is compared with the set of predetermined model. The deviation between the model and the process is fed to the adaptation device. This changes the control parameters until the deviation is as small as possible.

In addition to this designation ( Unbehauen 1988) also the name of model - reference control ( Föllinger 1992) is in use. The English name is model reference adaptive system ( MRAS ) and model reference adaptive control ( MRAC ).

Controlled adaptation without comparison model (pp. 137-138 )

In this case, changes are detected in the control loop by an identification stage and adjusted the control parameters based on a quality criterion. In addition to this designation ( Unbehauen 1988) also the name of self-tuning procedure ( Föllinger 1990 6th edition p.15 ) is in use.

Controlled adaptation (parameter scheduling ) (p. 138)

" Is the behavior of a control system for different parameter changes of the controlled system and disorders z known, then it is often possible to make the necessary adjustments of the control parameters to make a permanent assignment. " In this method, it is a control of the control parameters. The effects of parameter changes on the regulatory process are not considered.
