Adenine phosphoribosyltransferase
- OMIM: 102600
- UniProt: P07741
Adenine phosphoribosyl transferase, the enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of AMP and adenine from PRPP. This reaction of the salvage pathway is considerably more efficient than the de novo biosynthesis of AMP. The enzyme occurs in all living organisms and in humans in all tissue types. Mutations in the APRT gene may be responsible for APRT deficiency, which leads to a hereditary form of kidney stones.
Catalyzed reaction
PPi
Ribose phosphate is transferred to adenine, AMP is produced.
