Adolf Abel

Adolf Abel ( born November 27, 1882 in Paris, † November 3, 1968 in Bruck mountain ( Middle Franconia ) ) was a German architect and professor.

Life

Born the son of an architect, Abel studied 1902-1904 at the Technical University of Stuttgart under Theodor Fischer and 1904-1905 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. After a subsequent prolonged study trip through northern Italy, he worked from 1906 to 1908 in Dresden, from time to time as an employee of Paul Wallot. In 1909 he had a job in the architectural firm Schmohl and Staehlin, 1910-1914 in the office Eisenlohr and Pfennig, both in Stuttgart.

After the end of the First World War he was first assistant to the chair of Paul Bonatz at the Technical University in Stuttgart, where he received in 1921 a private teaching, which he held until 1925. At the same time he also worked freelance in partnership with the architect Karl Böhringer in Stuttgart as well as head of the construction department of the Neckar AG.

1925 Abel went as Director of Town Planning to Cologne and stayed until 1930 in this office. As the successor of Theodor Fischer, he was appointed in 1930 as professor of architecture and urban planning at the Technical University of Munich. In the years between 1933 and 1945 Abel had to be limited to urban studies and private commissions.

1946-1949 he was engaged in reconstruction work in Baden- Wurttemberg and Munich, among others, as a member of the reconstruction Board Baden-Württemberg.

In 1949 he was appointed lecturer at the Technical University of Darmstadt. 1955 Adolf Abel returned to Stuttgart.

Abel was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts.
