Adolf Dallapozza

Adolf Dallapozza ( born March 14, 1940 in Bolzano ) is an Austrian opera, operetta and musical singer (tenor ). He has been working for over 40 years at the Volksoper Vienna.

Artistic Career

Adolf Dallapozza comes from South Tyrol. He first completed a commercial education and worked in a book and music store. Besides, he took singing lessons. While studying, he sang in the choir of the Vienna Volksoper.

In 1962, he debuted at this house as a soloist in the role of Ernesto in Don Pasquale comic opera by Gaetano Donizetti. In the German premiere of West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, he sang in 1968 under the direction of Marcel Prawy the role of Tony with Julia Migenes as a partner. He was engaged at the Vienna State Opera in 1968. There he sang mainly the role of the specialist Buffotenors and play tenor, but was also used as a lyric tenor. He also performed regularly at the Vienna Volksoper, which remained his real headquarters during his entire career. From 1978 until his official retirement Adolf Dallapozza was without interruption ensemble member of the Vienna Volksoper. In 1984 he was appointed to the honorary member.

Repertoire

At the Volksoper in Vienna, he sang almost all the classic tenor roles in the operettas of Carl Millöcker, Johann Strauss, Franz Lehár and Emmerich Kálmán. Furthermore, he became even grand opera roles. So he sang Rodolfo in 1984 in " La Bohème" in the acclaimed, unsentimental production by Harry Kupfer, 1988 Wilhelm Meister in Mignon by Ambroise Thomas and 1990 the Lenski in Eugene Onegin. Later, Adolf Dallapozza also took roles of the character - compartment and captured, among other things with the role of Gretel in Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck the hearts of the audience.

In September 2008, Adolf Dallapozza celebrated with the role of Gabriel von Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss its 50th anniversary on stage. As a guest of Adolf Dallapozza remains connected until today the Vienna Volksoper. In the season 2011/2012 he sings there - as it did in the season before - the wicked witch in Hansel and Gretel.

Honors and Awards

1976 Adolf Dallapozza was awarded by the Austrian Federal President with the title chamber singers. In 1985 he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, 1st class and 1998, the Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria.
