Adolfo Rodríguez Saá

Adolfo Rodríguez Saa Páez Montero ( born July 25, 1947 in San Luis, San Luis Province, Argentina) is an Argentine politician and was dated 23 December 2001 to 30 December 2001, only less than a week president of Argentina.

As on 21 December 2001 Fernando de la Rúa resigned after economic and political turmoil by the Office of the President, the Vice President was, after the Argentine Constitution actually need to assume the office of President. The Vice President Carlos Alvarez but he resigned in October 2000 and since then this post was vacant. The next in line was therefore under the Constitution Ramón Puerta, Chairman of the Senate. However, he was overwhelmed with this task from the beginning and was glad when he was handed over the presidential sash from Adolfo Rodríguez Saa on December 23.

Adolfo Rodriguez Saa, until then, the San Luis province governor, was elected with 169 votes to 138, with representatives of both chambers of Congress and by the provincial governors to the Interim President. He should hold this office originally to 5 April 2002, ie up to that time at which a newly elected President took office should take.

Adolfo Rodriguez Saa declared shortly after taking office, a moratorium on the Argentine foreign debt in order to use this money for social purposes. He promised a million to create new jobs and to pay each family head an unemployment benefit in the amount of 300 pesos and 60 pesos for each child under 18 years.

However, he left the bank balances on frozen and not shaking at the 1:1 parity of the Argentine peso to the U.S. dollar. But he wanted to introduce a third currency, the Argentino, which should float freely against the peso and the dollar to create more purchasing power and to replace the provincial Notgelder. He announced this new currency on 26 December 2001.

The popularity of the new president and the support that was rapidly declining in his own party. After a week in office, he was only able to support the unions count. The population as demonstrated again in the last days of the term Fernando de la Rúa.

At a meeting convened by him meeting all Peronist provincial governors on December 30, 2001 was attended by only six of fourteen governors. Disappointed traveled Rodriguez Saa to San Luis and explained from there his resignation.

On the first day of the new year, Eduardo Duhalde was elected as the new president. He thus became the fifth President of Argentina in just 13 days.
