Adrian is a small place in the so-called Texas Panhandle, the northernmost part of the U.S. state of Texas. It is located near the western border with New Mexico at the former Route 66 in Oldham County.

History

Adrian's foundation dates back to the year 1900, after the rock Iceland Railroad had announced plans to set up a future holding and loading station here. The first settler was Calvin G. Aten, a former Texas Ranger. Not far from the planned railway station he built a simple shelter for his family. The city was named after another settler, a certain Adrian Cullen. In 1909, the railway station was completed and a year later, Adrian had a post office, several shops and a newspaper, the Eagle Adrian. In the 1940s, a volunteer fire department was established. In 1950, about 50 people in Adrian. The construction of the Route 66 Adrian became a focal point of the travelers. In 1969, the town was bypassed by an interstate and how many other places cut off from through traffic. According to the United States Census 2010 Adrian had 110 inhabitants. Adrian is the geographical center of the old route, there are exactly 1139 miles ( 1833 km ) to the start as the endpoint of the Mother Road.

The " Midpoint Café" on Route 66 in Adrian also finds a place in the Oscar -nominated Pixar animated film Cars by John Lasseter (2006). It was the inspiration for the " Flo's V -8 Cafe " in the film.
