Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad

The Chicago Rock Iceland and Pacific Railroad (RI ) was an American railroad company, headquartered in Chicago. She was also known under the name of rock Iceland Line, in her last years also as THE ROCK.

Route network

The power of rock Iceland extended mainly through the states of Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The two easternmost points of the route network were Chicago and Memphis ( Tennessee). In the West, the route network extended as far as Denver and Santa Rosa ( New Mexico), in the south to Galveston in Texas and Eunice in Louisiana and in the north to Minneapolis. The main routes leading out of Chicago over Des Moines and Omaha to Denver, Minneapolis on Des Moines to Kansas City (Missouri ), from St. Louis via Kansas City to Santa Rosa, of Herington, Kansas on Dallas - Fort Worth to Galveston and Santa Rosa to Memphis ( Tennessee). The route network was closest in Iowa and reached there and most cities of the state.

History

1851 began four years earlier, founded in Chicago & Rock Iceland Railroad to build a line from Rock on the Mississippi River Iceland to La Salle, where the connection to the Illinois and Michigan Canal was planned to Chicago. Your first train ran on 10 October 1852.

After her third bankruptcy in 1975, the company fell into bankruptcy. After the reorganization failed, she finally had to be liquidated. Her last train ran on 31 March 1980. The collapse of the rock Iceland was the largest in the U.S. railroad history. A large part of the railway infrastructure was sold. After the successful completion of the bankruptcy proceedings in January 1984, the Company called for in Chicago Pacific Corporation and invested in consumer products. The company was acquired in 1989 by Maytag.
