Adrian Warburton

Adrian Warburton (* March 1, 1918 in Middlesbrough, † April 12, 1944 at Egling ) was a reconnaissance pilot in the Royal Air Force.

Warburton was inducted into the RAF in 1939. From 1940 he conducted reconnaissance flights from Malta, which made him a national hero in England. His colleagues called him the " Lawrence of Arabia of the air". Supposedly Adrian have twice tried to kidnap Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, but this is to refer to the realm of legends.

1943 prepared including through the help of his reconnaissance the successful Allied invasion of Sicily before. He has also been recognized by numerous awards and the rank of Wing Commander.

On April 12, 1944 he led a reconnaissance flight from England to Munich. There, the observer of the 3 heavy anti-aircraft battery 571 tracked him first. A volley of the battery damaged the aircraft type Lightning so heavy that it crashed near Egling. It was only in March 2003, a farmer discovered the wreckage of the plane and body fragments in his field. According to the historian, the excavating machine must be turned in the crash on the back and have drilled through the two propellers deep into the ground, so Warburton in his cockpit had no chance of survival. The mortal remains of Adrian Warburton were buried in the War Cemetery Durnbach the Commonwealth War Graves Commission at Tegernsee in May 2003 with military honors.
