Adventure Game Interpreter

AGI ( Adventure Game Interpreter) is a development tool that has been used by Sierra Online to program their early Adventures.

The first King's Quest game originally used a game Assemble Language or *. Gal said program language. Your designer was Arthur Abraham. When he left Sierra, the company was no longer in a position to end the game. King's Quest was supposed to serve as a flagship product for the technology of the IBM PCjr. So " donated " IBM product, AGI, at Sierra to allow the development of King's Quest continue.

The mid- 80s was AGI an innovative technology. Newer versions have been adapted to support 16- color EGA graphics and Adlib sound card. Less well known here is the fact that Apple already had support for digital sound and polyphonic music IIgs version of AGI.

In the late 1980s, however, began AGI 160 × 200 resolution at to show their age and could not compete with newer engines like SCUMM by Lucasfilm Games, which were characterized by mouse control. 1990 prompted Sierra, instead of AGI ( Sierra Creative Interpreter) to use the SCI engine for their adventures games.

The AGI system was originally designed for the IBM PCjr. In the 1980s, it has also been ported to other platforms, and some games were commercially released on the Apple II, Apple Macintosh, Amiga and Atari ST. Although there was a Sega Master System version of King 's Quest and a NES version of King's Quest V, it is very unlikely that they use the AGI software system.

Sierra assumed that some systems would not be able to run the SCI version and developed a " light" version of the game. However, this turned out to be false, and the AGI version was quickly set. Therefore, the AGI version is considered collectible.
