Aeon (Thelema)
The term comes from the Greek aeon αιων ( Aion) and mean age which lasts 2160 years. In Hesiod's Theogony age follow cyclically from the best ( gold ) to worst ( iron ) in descending order.
Similar to other cultures and their religions eons or the Äonenwechsel since Liber AL vel Legis emergence of in 1904 are important for Thelema, since so starting a new aeon.
Aleister Crowley, the initiator of Thelema, called the eons by the Egyptian gods Isis, Osiris, Horus and Maat. This is due to the circumstances of the Liber AL vel Legis emergence of and the use of Egyptian gods in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, which Crowley was a member.
The aeons
The Isis is the aeon aeon of matriarchy. Ideological features include the belief that to be born again in their own kin, and ancestor worship as the basis of religious beliefs.
