Aequidens

Aequidens sp. " Jaru "

The Cichlids ( Cichlidae ) of the genus Aequidens (Latin: aequus = "same", dens = "tooth" ) live in the northern and central South America to northern Argentina.

There are small and medium-sized cichlids. Aequidens hoehnei is the smallest kind of just 5.6 inches tall, while the species of the lineage of green gloss cichlid ( Aequidens tetramerus ) can reach a length of 25 centimeters.

Many species of the genus Aequidens are popular aquarium fish. They are not as aggressive and not dig as much as the related genus Cichlasoma from the same habitat.
