Aerobie

An Aerobie is a sports and leisure equipment, which is thrown in a similar way like a Frisbee. The Aerobie is however not ring and disc-shaped. Another distinguishing feature of the Frisbee is its lower mass and more stable flight. To optimize the flight behavior of the Aerobie can be bent easily. Due to its very low air resistance and stable flight behavior, it can be thrown much further than a Frisbee. The ring is only about 3 mm thick.

The Aerobie was invented by Alan Adler 1984. It has a core made of polycarbonate with soft edges made of rubber on the outside and the inside. The rubber edge on the outside is aerodynamically designed in a special way and largely responsible for the flight characteristics of the Aerobie.

On 14 July 2003, it was erected by Erin Hemmings in Fort Funston with the Aerobie at a distance 406,30 m, a world record for cast man-made objects. The sports equipment was about 30 seconds in the air ( unofficial value) and was the first object that more than a quarter of a mile (about 402.30 m) was thrown. This world record was, however, surpassed in 2005 with a boomerang throw.
