Aeroflot Flight 593

The Aeroflot Flight 593 was a scheduled flight of Aeroflot between Sheremetyevo Airport and the Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport. On March 23, 1994, this route was flown by an Airbus A310 -304 with registration F- OGQS. The aircraft crashed into a hillside in Siberia from near Meschduretschensk, all 75 people on board died. The records of the votes recorder showed that at the time of the accident Eldar Kudrinski, the 15 -year-old son of the pilot at the wheel.

After the evaluation, the flight data recorder, the investigators found that the plane, which had hitherto flown normally, suddenly tilted to the right, then first quickly gained altitude before heading out to towards the floor. The reason was that the son of the pilots had unwittingly a function of the autopilot of the A310 enabled, most pilots was even at that time unknown.

The accident happened

The pilot, Jaroslaw Kudrinski (Russian Ярослав Кудринский ), took on this day his two children on her first long-haul flight. During the flight, he showed them the cockpit and offered them to take over the control, while the autopilot was active. First, the daughter took on the pilot seat. Kudrinski changed the course of the autopilot, so that the daughter had the feeling to fly a curve, even though she had no control of the aircraft.

Then he let his son Eldar behind the wheel. This was different than his sister. Even when it changed Kudrinski the autopilot course for the A310 flew a curve. After he had again set the intended course, Eldar kept the control of force in the neutral position. This was in conflict with the control commands of the autopilot and after thirty seconds in which the son held the control line, the autopilot servo of the rolling channel is mechanically separated from the control of the ailerons. Thus, while the bank and thus the tax rate could no longer be controlled by the autopilot, he remained in all other areas of control still active. The partial deactivation of the autopilot was the pilot unknown as a special function of the A310 and the pilot was not informed clearly enough. This, together with the then untrained dealing with extreme situations of commercial aircraft were later identified as the main causes that the pilots could the over control of the aircraft to counter anything.

The first to notice the problem, Eldar was when he saw that the plane began to decline 2.5 ° per second to the right. Shortly thereafter, an unexpected curve was shown in the flight path on the navigation screen what the pilots saw as a non- scheduled queue (Holding) and confused her for a while. Meanwhile, the inclination was 45 ° exceeded and it worked a ca 2 g on the plane. This made it Kudrinski impossible to remove his son from the control. As the skew had reached almost 90 ° ( here were forces to 4.8 g ), tried the autopilot with its remaining functions to correct the attitude by letting the aircraft fly almost vertically upwards. However, in this attitude, there was a stall, so that the machine came into a tailspin.

During the following fall flight the forces normalized and Jaroslaw Kudrinski could take control again. Although he and his co-pilot brought the Airbus back under control, it is no longer managed the aircraft in time to pull up in front of the floor. Approximately three minutes after the partial disconnection of the autopilot crashed the machine on the ground.

Media

In the third season of the Canadian television show Mayday - Alarm in the cockpit, a reconstruction of the accident in the episode was shown " child in the cockpit ."

Flight number

Many airlines assign flight numbers that were involved in an accident, no further. The route Moscow - Hong Kong, however, was flown after the crash March 23, 1994 as Flight 593.
