AeroVironment Inc. is an American technology company based in Monrovia, which is active in the fields of aviation, especially the unmanned aircraft, electric mobility, testing services. It was founded in 1971 by the aviation pioneer Paul MacCready.

Aviation

AeroVironment is particularly active in niche areas of aviation. In the early years the company with muscle power aircraft drew attention to himself, later laid foundations for solar-powered aircraft and established itself later on the market for small unmanned aircraft.   • Raven: A small unmanned aircraft for the military.
  • Wasp: A miniature UAV.
  • Puma: A hand- bootable military UAV.
  • Nano Hummingbird: An extremely small aircraft, which was modeled in appearance and aviation technology a hummingbird.
  • SkyTote: A vertical bootable hybrid aircraft.
  • Switchblade: A small armed drone.

Electromobility

Commercially developed and produced AeroVironment charging stations for electric vehicles. The company, however, developed partly in cooperation with other companies, including solar and electric-powered test vehicles.

  • Sunraycer: This solar-powered car won the first race of 1987 for such vehicles in Australia. The second car came only two days later to the finish.
  • GM Impact: This electrically powered car was built as a prototype for a series vehicle.
