Æthelwine of Lindsey
Aethelwine (also Ediluini ) was from 680 to 692 to the second Bishop of Lindsey.
Life
Aethelwine came from the nobility of fishing ( " de nobilibus Anglorum "). His parents and his birth year is unknown. His sister was Æthelhild abbess of a convent in Lincolnshire and his brother Ealdwine was abbot of Peartaneu ( Partney / Lincolnshire ). Æthelhun, another brother, was a monk in the monastery Rathmelsigi in Ireland.
After Aethelwine had received a good education in Ireland, he returned to Lindsey. In 679 Æthelred of Mercia conquered the Kingdom of Lindsey. Bishop Eadhæd had to leave Lindsey and Aethelwine was 680 his successor. Over his tenure as bishop was only narrated that he ( "worthy" ) ruled multo tempore ("long time " ) and nobilissime. Æthelwines unknown date of death is usually assumed to 692.
