Afar National Democratic Party

The Afar National Democratic Party ( German National Democratic Party and the Afar, Amharic የአፋር ብሔራዊ ዴሞክራሲያዊ ፓርቲ, English Afar National Democratic Party; abbreviation ANDP ) is a political party in Ethiopia.

The ANDP represents Ethiopia in the Afar ethnic group and currently represents the regional government in the Afar region. The party, however, is involved as a regional partner of the ruling coalition Ethiopian People 's Revolutionary Democratic Front of the same also in the national government of the country. Thus, the national Federal Minister of Social Affairs of Ethiopia and the Federal Minister for Livestock are a member of ANDP.

History

The ANDP was in the second half of 1999 from the merger of the Democratic organization of the people of Afar ( Afar People's Democratic Organization, APDO ), the National Liberation Front of Afar ( Afar National Liberation Front, ANLF ) and the National Democratic Movement of Afar ( Afar National Democratic Movement, NdBa ) and from members of the Afar liberation Front ( Afar liberation Front, ALF) and the Revolutionary Democratic front of the unit Afar ( Afar Revolutionary Democratic unity front, ARDUF ) was founded. The ALF and the ARDUF however, are still politically active.

In the national elections to the Ethiopian Federal Parliament on 15 May 2005, the ANDP won the popular vote by 1.4 % 8 of the 546 parliamentary seats in the People's House of Representatives and therefore all seats for the Afar region. In the elections to regional parliaments in August of the same year the party won 84 of the possible 87 seats in the state parliament of the Afar Region.
