Affligem Abbey

The Abbey Affligem (Dutch Sint -Pieters -en- Paulusabdij Affligem ) is a Benedictine abbey in Affligem in the province of Flemish Brabant, about 5 km to the east of Aalst and 20 km north- west of Brussels. Founded on June 28, 1062 by Count Palatine Herman II, it has long been house abbey of the Dukes of Brabant and the most excellent in Brabant (Latin primaria Brabantiae ). In the wake of the French Revolution, the abbey in 1796, was lifted. 1870 moved again a convent. In 2010, the abbey was one of about 18 monks. The Abbey is also famous for its long tradition of brewing beer.
