Affligem is a municipality of Belgium some 20 km west-north- west of Brussels, in the province of Flemish Brabant, near Aalst and the railway junction Denderleeuw.

The municipality comprises the towns residents, Hekelgem and Teralfene. On January 1, 2012, it had 12,615 inhabitants was 17.7 km ²; Surface, which corresponds to a population density of 713 inhabitants per km ².

Abbey Affligem

Affligem was known by 1062, founded by Count Palatine Herman II Benedictine Abbey of Affligem, long considered home of the Dukes of Brabant Abbey was the most important abbey in Brabant. The abbey was abolished in 1792. 1870 moved again a convent. In 2010, the abbey was one of about 18 monks.

The Abbey has a long tradition of brewing beer. The still -produced beer was brewed here since at least 1574.
