Overijse is a Belgian municipality with 24,716 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012) in the province of Flemish Brabant. It is located on the edge of Zonienwaldes in the southern part of the Dijlelandes, bordering the Brussels Capital Region, the Flemish municipalities Hoeilaart, Huldenberg and Tervuren, the Walloon towns of La Hulpe and Rixensart and Wavre in the Walloon town. Overijse consists of the six districts Overijse - centrum, Jezus - Eik, Eizer, Terlanen, Tombeek and Maleizen. By Overijse the Bach Ijse, which the community takes its name flows. The region around Overijse, Hoeilaart and Huldenberg is also called the Druivenstreek ( " the region of the grapes "). History

Overijse was first mentioned in 832 in a document under the name Isca. Isca is a latinisiertes word of Celtic origin and means water.

Between 1001 and 1005, the community was first rights of Otto of Lower Lorraine, which allowed the residents exempt from customs duties on the Brussels market to sell grain.

In 1234 Henry I of Brabant granted the citizens Overijses freedom rights that they put on a par with the citizens of Brussels and Louvain Wavres.

1832 Overijse was a badge of honor awarded for dispatching volunteers to Brussels during the Belgian Revolution, 1830.

In 1840, King Leopold I granted the Municipality permission to be allowed to wear a coat of arms.
