Afterlife (film)

Afterlife is a Canadian animated short film by Ishu Patel from the year 1978., The French title of the film is Après la vie.

Action

A light glows rhythmically, a man dies. His soul detaches itself from him. There follow, red and gold - yellow -rayed, artistic forms and compositions, large and small entities, people who turn into horses and horse heads, which are to human heads. Men get wings and merge into new forms, circles turn out to be heads and merge into new structures. At the end remains a vibrant white light, which goes off after a while.

Production

A non-fiction book by Elisabeth Kubler- Ross on death experiences inspired Ishu Patel for his animated film Afterlife. Random Patel discovered while working on the film, the lighting effects behind or under -lit clay, which vary depending on the thickness of the ground. He continued this animation technique for the first time to at Afterlife. The images are accompanied by Herbie 's interpretation of the play in Tangier by David Mills musically.

Awards

Afterlife won the 1978 Montreal Grand Prize of the Montreal World Film Festival and a Genie Award (then Etrog ) as the best animated film. The following year he was awarded the Grand Prix (later Cristal d' Annecy ) of the Festival d' Animation Annecy.
