Aga Zaryan

Aga Zaryan ( born January 17, 1976 in Warsaw as Agnieszka Skrzypek ) is a Polish jazz singer.

Life and work

Zaryan, whose father is a classical pianist, grew up partly on in Manchester; by recordings of Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis, she was led to jazz. She studied at the Fryderyk Chopin Conservatory Jazz and completed several jazz workshops in the United States.

2002 ( under her maiden name ) her first album, My Lullaby published, which contained jazz standards, in Poland attracted great attention and reached gold status. Also the following album Picking Up the Pieces (2006) was economically a great success and led to international recognition. The album umiera Piękno (Beauty Is Dying ) deals with the Warsaw Uprising and was awarded with a Fryderyk. Even more plates of the singer, most of which were published in international record companies, found a high recognition; Album Looking Walking Being reached platinum status.

Prizes and awards

At the International Jazz Singer Competition 1998 Zamość Zaryan took second place. The readers of the magazine Jazz Forum they chose between 2007 and 2011 over and over again the best Polish jazz singer. As for the album umiera Piękno 2008 she was awarded in 2011 for the album Księga Olśnień a Fryderik.
