Guadalajarana Agave is a plant of the genus Agave ( Agave ). English common names are " Guadalajara Agave " and " Maguey Chato ".

Description

Agave guadalajarana formed small, compact rosettes and sometimes forms foothills. It reaches heights of growth to 25 cm and a diameter of 25 to 35 cm. The variable, ovate to oblong, sharp, bluish leaves are 20-30 cm long and 8-12 cm wide. The wart-like leaf margins are toothed. The flexibly arranged, gray Enddorn is long and 2.5 cm.

The Rispige, straight to curved, slender inflorescence is 4 to 5 m high. The yellow flowers are up to 60 mm long and appear on the upper half of the inflorescence, to loose, irregularly arranged branches.

Systematics and distribution

Agave guadalajarana grows in Mexico in the state of Jalisco on grassy slopes in volcanic soil and woodlands in 1500-2000 m altitude. It is associated with cacti and succulents.

The first description by William Trelease was published in 1920. Synonyms are Agave dealbata Lem. ex Jacobi and Agave intrepida Greenman.

Agave guadalajarana is a member of the group Parryanae. It grows limited near Guadalajara. Typical are the different group within the wart-like leaf margins with the loose inflorescences. It resembles Agave colorata, but differences in shape, size and leaf structure are visible. Individuals are under the name Agave megalacantha Lem. ex Jacobi cultivated in Central Europe. It is extremely hardy in dry state to minus 18 ° C.
