Agent Green

Green agent was the code name of a military defoliant, containing as active ingredient the n-butyl ester of 2,4,5- trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5 -T). It was named after the green strip around the barrels of the U.S. armed forces in Vietnam. Agent Green was used by the Americans during the Vietnam War to defoliate forests, but to a lesser extent than the known Agent Orange. Agent Green was not used alone, but always as a mixture with Agent Pink. According to the procurement documents 31,026 l Agent Green were purchased. The period of use is limited to the years 1961-1965, because Agent Green was no longer ordered after Agent Orange was available.

Agent Green may have been contaminated to a considerable extent with dioxins. One can only conclude from the period of production of the ingredient 2,4,5 -T, decreased the levels of dioxins in general during the 1960s. The then yielded Agent Green samples do not seem to be preserved.
