Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza del Volo

The Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza del Volo (it. National Aviation Safety Agency, in short ANSV ) is an independent transport authority of Italy. It has its headquarters in Rome.

According to the EU Directive 94/56/EC of 21 November 1994, the ANSV is responsible for the investigation of accidents and incidents in civil aviation in Italy. To avoid them, it gives out detailed recommendations. As far as she is not concerned with individual incidents, they carry out studies, investigations and actions to the overall improvement of safety in civil aviation.

In order to preserve their independence in aircraft accident investigations, the ANSV not subject to the Department of Transportation or the Department of Aviation ENAC. Instead, they will be supervised by the Office of the Prime Minister. The ANSV is managed as an independent authority of a president who is the Executive Board along with four other people.

The ANSV was founded on the basis of mentioned EU Directive in 1999. Prior to the Italian Ministry of Transport was directly responsible for the investigation of aircraft accidents.
