Aglaja Orgeni

Aglaya Orgeni (actually Anna Maria of Goerger St. Jörgen; born December 17, 1841 in Rimaszombat, Austria - Hungary, † March 15 1926 in Vienna) was a Hungarian opera singer ( coloratura soprano) and singing teacher.

Life

Aglaya Orgeni came from a Hungarian noble family. She studied in Baden -Baden with Pauline Viardot and debuted in 1865 as Amina in Bellini's La sonnambula at the Berlin Court Opera. 1866, she went to the Covent Garden Opera and achieved great success there as Lucia di Lammermoor and Violetta in La Traviata. 1873 to 1878 she was engaged at the Munich Court Opera. She has performed at all major stages in Europe and was one of the most sought after Koloratricen their time.

1886-1914 she was a singing teacher at the Dresden Conservatory, where she became the first woman of the Royal Conservatory awarded the 1908 title of professor. In 1914 she went to Vienna, where she taught singing to her death.

Among her pupils were, inter alia, Erika Wedekind, Edyth Walker, Berta Morena, Gertrude Förstel, Sophie Wolf and Margarethe Siems.
