Aglaja Veteranyi

Aglaya Veteranyi ( born May 17, 1962 in Bucharest; † 3 February 2002 in Zurich ) was a Swiss actress and writer.

Life

Aglaya Veteranyi came from a Romanian family of circus performers; the father came as a clown on the mother as an acrobat. In 1967, the family fled from Romania. In the following years Aglaya Veteranyi was forced to act as an artist and dancer. 1977, left the family settled in Switzerland. Although dominated Aglaya Veteranyi the Romanian and Spanish, as she had, however, caused by the frequent change of location visited, not a regular school, she was illiterate. They suited itself to the written and spoken German language. In addition, she completed a training as an actor at the Drama Community Zurich, where they then also taught.

Since 1982 Veteranyi lived as a freelance writer and actress in Zurich. In 1988, she took over together with Christian Seiler until August 2001, the leadership of the Acting Community Zurich (now Acting School Zurich ). She has published numerous articles in journals and anthologies and has participated in various theater projects, including with René Oberholzer in the literary experimentation group word pump. She was a member of the Swiss German PEN Centre. Since autumn 2001, Aglaya Veteranyi was in a mental health crisis that led to it by drowning in Lake Zurich took his own life in February 2002.

Aglaya Veteranyi wrote novels, poems and plays. In particular their autobiographical texts in which they processed their difficult childhood were, whether their authenticity highly praised by literary critics. Her novel The shelf of the last breaths remained unfinished and was published posthumously.
