Agonus cataphractus

Stone Picker ( Agonus cataphractus )

The Stone Picker ( Agonus cataphractus ) is a benthic fish bone in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and the southern Baltic Sea. The species is the only representative of the genus Agonus ( gr agonos - " barren ", " not giving birth " ) in the family of armored bullheads ( Agonidae ). The 21 cm long animals have a broad, armored head and trunk and a slender caudal peduncle and resemble the much larger sculpin.

Pogge live on soft bottoms where they feed on shrimp and other small crustaceans. The North Sea population migrates to the spawning season in spring in the rock surfaces from Helgoland and puts her yellow Eiklumpen between the seaweeds and other algae there. Even in the drift line of the beaches, the animals can be observed. After 10 months, the larvae hatch.
