Agua Prieta is a town in the north of the Mexican state of Sonora with 68 402 inhabitants ( 2005). Agua Prieta is located across from Douglas on the Mexican -US border. The main economic activities are trade and industry.

History

The railway line between Douglas ( Arizona) and Nacozari ( Sonora ) attracted many people in the city, founded in 1899 Agua Prieta. The traffic- convenient location and proximity to the United States was also one of the reasons that Agua Prieta in 1911 and 1915 the scene of two battles was during the Mexican Revolution.
