Agudos do Sul

Agudos do Sul is a Brazilian municipality in the federal state of Paraná and belongs to the metropolitan region of Curitiba.

Name

The word " agudo " in Portuguese means " pointed " and points to small, pointed elevations in the vicinity of the place. " Do Sul " means " in the South" and is used to distinguish it from the more northerly community Agudos in the state of São Paulo.

History

The occupation of the site began in the 19th century. At that time, the area belonged to the municipality of São José dos Pinhais. Only in 1961 Agudos do Sul was a separate municipality. It consists of the districts Agudos do Sul and Colônia Padre Paulo.

In the meantime ( 2010 ) is one Agudos do Sul 8270 inhabitants 192,228 km ².
