Agusta A101

The Agusta A101 ( in the initial phase called AZ.101G ) was a development project for a transport helicopter of the Italian company Agusta. Despite a planning period of 13 years and reaching the production stage of the A101 was never produced in series.

History

In 1958, Agusta started with configuring an own transport helicopter. So far, the company had mainly successful American helicopter built and sold under license. During the early planning phase of the helicopter was called AZ.101G The "Z" stood for the designer Filippo Zappata. Even before the first flight of the name to A.101G vereinfacht.Die claimed in some sources naming was A.101D can not be confirmed by contemporary sources.

Since the plant capacity had been exhausted by the running series productions, the first prototype was completed in 1964. After further extensions of the initial prototype and adaptations to the current state of the art, the model was used in the fall of 1968 for testing. Due to further delays the machine its maturity phase, however, gained after several modifications until 1971. At the time it was, however, already technically obsolete and had over then current competitors in any market opportunities. Therefore Agusta discontinued the project.
