Aharon Remez

Aharon Remez (Hebrew אהרן רמז; born May 8, 1919 in Tel Aviv, † April 3, 1994 in Jerusalem) was an Israeli major general in the Air Force and politician. Remez was 1948-1950 commander of the Israeli Air Force. He was a member of the third Knesset, 1965-1970 Ambassador in London and after retirement from politics CEO of Koor Industries.

Life

1936 Remez occurred at the age of 17 the Haganah. A grant from the Jewish Agency for Israel, it enabled him in 1939 to be trained in the U.S. for pilots, from where he volunteered for the Royal Air Force ( RAF) went to Britain in 1941 or 1942, where he successfully trained as a fighter pilot made and then flew 800 combat missions in Germany as a Spitfire pilot with Hawker Hurricanes and Tempests and Hawker. After the war he remained first in Europe and participated in the organization of the emigration of Jewish Holocaust survivors to Israel. In 1947 he took up his work in the Haganah again. In August of the same year he received from David Ben- Gurion and the Haganah leadership the contract to design the air force of a future state of Israel.

For the Workers' Party, he was from 15 August 1955 until his untimely resignation on December 19, 1957 Member in the third Knesset.

Family

His father David Remez (1886-1951) was the first Israeli Minister of Transport and a signatory of the Israeli declaration of independence of 1948. His son is the award-winning journalist Gideon Remez.
