Ahat Jami Mosque

The agate - Jami Mosque ( Ukrainian: Мечеть Ахать Джамі ) is located in the northwest of the Ukrainian city of Donetsk. It was named in honor of agate Hafizovych Bragin, an entrepreneur and former president of the football club Shakhtar Donetsk, in 1995, a bomb was assassinated; one of its minarets is named after the businessman Rinat Akhmetov.

History

In 1993, the Muslim community founded "Star of the prophets " in Donetsk. A year later the foundation stone of the first mosque in the region was laid. The plans for the building were borrowed from one of Istanbul's mosques.

The main sponsor of the project was agate Bragin. After his tragic death on 15 October 1995, they decided to name the mosque after him. Originally, the building should only have a minaret, but financing by Rinat Akhmetov made a second possible, which was eventually named after him. On the first floor there is the Ukrainian Islamic University - the first Muslim institution for higher education in Ukraine.

The mosque and the Islamic University was officially opened on 3 September 1999.
