Ahmed el-Tayeb

Mohammad Ahmad al - Tayyeb (Arabic: أحمد محمد الطيب, DMG Aḥmad Muḥammad aṭ - Taiyib; born January 6, 1946 in Luxor, Egypt) is an Egyptian Islamic scholar. He was appointed as successor to the late Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, the Sheikh al -Azhar on 19 March 2010. As such, he is also the imam of the al -Azhar mosque and is considered an important religious authority of Sunni Islam. In the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the grand sheikh has his office automatically the protocol-related rank of Prime Minister and can only be dismissed by the President of the Republic, as rector of al -Azhar University had al - Tayyeb previously held the rank of minister. The Grand Sheikh of al -Azhar is always appointed for life.

Life

Al- Tayyeb was previously Rector (President ) of the al -Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt from 2003 until 10 April 2010. As Grand Mufti of the Arab Republic of Egypt, he served on 10 March 2002 to 27 September 2003, as Dean of the Faculty of Theology at the International Islamic University Islamabad in Pakistan from 1999 to 2000, as Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies Aswan from 15 November 1995 until 3 October 1999, as Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies of Qena from 27 October 1990-31 August 1991., as well as a professor of philosophy and theology at al- Azhar University from 6 January 1988 until today.

Al- Tayyeb was marked by several important scientific work in Islam, including through a comment on the capital of theology in " refining the words" al - Taftazani in 1997. Mohammad Ahmad al - Tayyeb is a member of the Egyptian Society for Philosophy, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, in the Islamic researchers meeting in Vertrauensrat of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union and President of the Religious Committee of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union.
