Ahmet HaÅŸim

Ahmet Haşim (* 1883-1887 probably in Baghdad, † June 4, 1933 in Istanbul, also written as Ahmed Hasim ) was an influential Turkish poets of the early 20th century.

Life

Childhood and school

Ahmet Haşim was born around 1884 in Baghdad. He was descended from families, the famous religious scholars had produced. The maternal great-grandfather, Emin Efendi, was one of them and was also a member of the first Ottoman Parliament. Ahmet Haşims father was the governor of the Ottoman Sanjak of Fizan. The mother was seriously ill and died when Ahmet was eight years old. The following period is characterized by a close attachment to her father, who took him on numerous missions in his county, so that no regular schooling came about.

To 1894/95 drew Haşim with his father in Istanbul. Since he had not learned Turkish in Baghdad, but had grown up with Arabic, he had only this language relearning about a year before they could start school there. Then he visited the Galatasaray High School as a boarder. Here he learned as foreign languages ​​French, Persian and had continued in Arabic lessons. Even classical oriental poetry was taught. Among his teachers was Tevfik Fikret literature ( 1867-1915 ). During this time, his father married again, what could break the close emotional bond with him. The High School put Ahmet Haşim from 1906.

Profession

Initially, he worked in the state administration and studied alongside jurisprudence. Without complete the program, he was transferred in 1908 as a French teacher to Izmir. There he became friends with the writer and diplomat Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu ( 1889-1974 ). During this time he wrote his first poems. From 1910 he worked as a translator in the Debt Management Office. Collected during the First World War he served first in Canakkale, from 1917 due to illness then as inspector of troops boarding. After the military collapse of the Ottoman Empire, he was unemployed and got into great material hardship. From 1920, then he could teach as a professor of Aesthetics at the Academy of Fine Arts and as a French teacher at Istanbul University. In 1921 he moved again to the Debt Management Office, where he worked until the proclamation of the Turkish Republic in 1923. In 1924 he spent the summer in Paris. For many years he also wrote for the newspapers Akşam and İkdâm. His main job was now working for the Ottoman bank.

From 1927 translated again health problems. He repeatedly went for a long time for the treatment to Paris. Heart muscle, liver and kidney were affected. He gave up the position at the bank and worked in several private schools as a French teacher. In the short term, he also belonged to the board of the Anatolian Railway. After hospitalization in Istanbul, he went in the fall of 1932 for the treatment to Frankfurt am Main. On this occasion his travelogue Frankfurt (Frankfurt Seyahatnamesi ) was born. Physiologically but it went from bad to worse to him after returning to Istanbul. Four days before his death, he married his nurse. He died on 4 June 1933.

Ahmet Haşims first poems were published in 1900-1912 in the literary magazine Mecmua -i Edebiye. Later he was a member of the movement that became known as Fecr -i Ati or twilight of the future. After he was released along with other poets in the Journal Dergah. By 1921, he published his first book of poems under the title Göl Saatleri (hours of the lake). His second book of poems, Piyale ( The Wine Cup ), followed by 1926.

This poem shows that Haşim used carefully selected natural images to express the emotional state of the person of the poem.
