Ahmet Kutsi Tecer

Ahmet Kutsi Tecer ( born September 4, 1901 in Jerusalem, † July 23, 1967 in Istanbul) was a Turkish poet and politician.

Tecer studied philosophy in Istanbul and became a teacher of philosophy. Then he worked in the Ministry of National Education and was from 1942 to 1946 deputy in the Turkish parliament. In 1950 he became a director for UNESCO, but then went back into the teaching profession, which he held until his retirement in 1966.

Already in the twenties, he began writing poetry, which published in various magazines and were summarized in 1932 in the anthology Siirler. The poems in the traditional syllable -counting verse are marked by love of country and the plays, which he dedicates himself from the forties ( Yazılan Bozulmaz (1947 ), Köşebası (1948 ), Köroğlu (1949 ), Bir Pazar Günü (1959) and Satılık (1961 ) ), are more popular and criticize reformers and Western orientation. In addition Tecer has published work on folk literature and folklore.
