Ain Shams University (Arabic: جامعة عين شمس, DMG Ǧāmi ʿ at ʿ Ain Sams ) is a higher education institution in Cairo, Egypt, which was founded in 1950.
History
The third non-denominational public Egyptian university, Ain Shams University in 1950, was then established as Ibrahim Pasha University. The two older universities of this type are the University of Cairo and Alexandria University.
The then eight faculties in the arts, law, economics, science, technology, medicine, agriculture and the Women's College has since been expanded to 15 faculties. This was followed by the teacher's college and faculties in languages (Al- Alsun ), pharmacy, dentistry, computer science, nursing science, environmental research and Special Education.
In the academic year 2005/ 06 the University had 197 032 students and 9,338 employees. The largest faculties in 2005, the faculties of economics, law and art.
Campus
The seven campuses of the Ain Shams University are spread throughout Cairo.
Alabassya
Four campuses are located in Alabassya: the two Hauptcampusse, the Ain Shams hospital with the medical faculty and the technical faculty.
Heliopolis
Both the women's and the teacher's college located in Heliopolis
Shubra el-Kheima
The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences is located in Shubra el-Kheima in Greater Cairo.
