Air National Guard

The Air National Guard ( ANG) is responsible for the airspace of the National Guard of the United States and together with the Air Force Reserve Command ( AFRC ) the Reserve Force of the U.S. Air Force ( USAF); its headquarters is in Washington, D.C.

Organization and order

The ANG is subject to the governors of the individual U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia where it can be obtained from natural disasters or civil unrest for help. At the same time it has a government contract for air defense of the entire United States and can be mobilized in the event of a crisis by the President. As long as the ANG units are not required, they are different major commands of the Air Force assigned and assume there some of the same functions as the Air Force soldiers of active service. Thus, the ANG around half of the air transport and air refueling capacity of the Air Mobility Command.

Equipment and personnel

For air fleet includes about 1,300 machines all USAF aircraft types, with the exception of the stealth aircraft, B-2, as well as the MH -53 Pave Low helicopter, the B-1 bomber and the AC-130 Gunship.

End of 2006, the staff of the Air National Guard ( ANG) around 106,000 soldiers plus 1,200 civilian employees.

History

The Air National Guard was founded on September 18, 1947, concurrently with the United States Air Force.
