Ajoux

Ajoux is a commune with 94 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the region Rhône -Alpes. It is located in the department of Ardèche. Its inhabitants are Ajouxois (it) called.

Geography

The community Ajoux is framed by the mountains of the Cevennes in the midst of Ardeche in the basin of the prefecture Privas and is part of the Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche. It borders on the neighboring communes of Saint -Priest and Saint- Pierre Ville. The next largest town is in Aubenas 17 kilometers to the southwest. The trout stream Auzène meanders through the municipality. Ajoux is part of the ridge route to the destination in Mézilhac.

History

The story of Ajoux is characterized by strongly changing owners and affiliations. In the 13th century it was the property of Adhemar de Grignan. In the 14th century Louis gets from Anduze the site by the Earl Valentinois given to his inauguration. In the 16th century, the area was handed over to François I, in recognition of the Count of Ventadour.

Attractions

Le rocher d' Ajoux is a mountain from which the legend, there was once a lock there exists with 365 windows, just as many as there are days in the year. Have survived a few ruins on the mountain, but do not allow precise conclusions about the building that stood there. The place is also home to a rustic church.

Other attractions include the remains of the castle as well as the panoramic views from Roc de Gourdon, a basalt rock with a distinctive peak. The river Auzène is very popular with anglers, mainly due to its Forellenvorkommnisse.

Economy

Major lines of business in Ajoux are timber industry, fruit growing and breeding of domestic sheep and goats.
