Privas
Privas is a town with 8352 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in southeastern France. It is located in the Rhône-Alpes region and is the capital of Ardeche. The town is the gateway to the Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche ( Parc naturel régional des Monts d' Ardèche).
Geography
Privas located in the eastern part of the Massif Central, in the valley of Ouvèze.
In 1862 the railway line Le Pouzin - Privas was opened, which Privas connected with the railway network. The passenger traffic on the route was discontinued in 1938; Freight trains to operate until 1989.
History
Privas was a Huguenot city and was destroyed in 1629 as a stronghold of the Huguenots.
There are twinned with Weilburg, Zevenaar (Netherlands), Tortona (Italy) and Wetherby (Great Britain).
