Wetherby

Wetherby is a small town in the Metropolitan Borough of Leeds City of the English county of West Yorkshire and owned according to the census in 2001 a total of 11,155 inhabitants.

History

The first mention of Wetherby in 1240 in a decree by Henry III. In which he gave the town market rights and an annual three-day trade fair allowed. 1318/1319 Wetherby was burned down after the Battle of Bannockburn by the Scots and killed many inhabitants. 1644, the English Civil War, the parliamentarians were waiting here two days on the Scottish troops to march with them to Marston Moor.

Attractions

  • The district of Bishopsgate goes back to Walter de Gray, Archbishop of York, who in 1233 granted an indulgence to those who contributed to the construction of the Wetherby Bridge.
