Akhmeta

Akhmeta (Georgian: ახმეტა, ɑχmɛtɑ ) is a town in the region of Kakheti, Georgia. Akhmeta is the administrative center of the homonymous municipality .. The city is situated on the right bank of the river Alazani. The status of the town was Akhmeta in 1966. Has 8600 inhabitants ( 2002). North of the city is a basilica " Gvtaeba " ( ღვთაება ), which is mentioned in the sources as an apartment by the monk Anton Martqopeli.
