Akhmetzhan Yessimov

Achmetdschan Smagulowitsch Jesimow ( Kazakh Ахметжан Смағұлұлы Есімов, Russian Ахметжан Смагулович Есимов; born December 19, 1950 the Almaty region ) is since April 2008 Mayor of the city of Almaty. Previously, he was twice Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Life

Achmetdschan Smagulowitsch Jesimow was born on December 19, 1950 in the district Qaskeleng near Almaty. In 1974 he received his degree from the Kazakh Agricultural Institute. In the following years he was active in the Communist Party of Kazakhstan and 1990, he was appointed the first deputy chairman of the State Agricultural Committee of the Kazakh SSR, and in 1991 the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Kazakh SSR.

In 1991 he was finally chairman of the regional administration of the territory Almaty; this office he held until December 1994. Between 1998 and 2001 was Achmetdschan Jesimow Ambassador of Kazakhstan in the Benelux and Representative of Kazakhstan to the European Union and NATO.

From May 2001 to May 2006 he was first minister of agriculture in Kazakhstan. Of 19 January 2006 to 4 April 2008, he was again Minister of Agriculture. At an extraordinary meeting of the city council of Almaty, he was appointed as the new mayor.

On 16 October 2008, he also was elected to the regional chairman of the Nur Otan party.
