Aki Orr

Akiva " Aki " Orr ( born 1931 in Berlin, † February 9, 2013 ) was an Israeli writer and political activist. He was a critic of Zionism and supported a one-state solution to the Israeli- Palestinian conflict. Since 1968, Orr sat for a direct democracy.

Orr was born into a Jewish family in Berlin. His parents left in 1934 after the takeover of power by the National Socialists of Germany and went to Palestine, which was a British Mandate at that time.

In 1961 he published jointly with Moshe Machover Scripture Shalom, Shalom ve'ein Shalom ( "Peace, peace, and yet no peace " ), in which he criticized the war against Egypt and the government, David Ben- Gurion. In 1962, he left the Communist Party of Israel and founded the left-wing socialist organization Matzpen.
