Akihiro Ohata

Akihiro Ohata (Japanese大 畠 章 宏, Akihiro Ohata, born October 5, 1947 in Johoku (now Shirosato ), Ibaraki Prefecture) is a Japanese politician of the Democratic Party, Member of the Shūgiin for the fifth constituency Ibaraki and from January to September 2011 infrastructure Minister Kan 's cabinet. Within the party he leads his own faction since 2011, the Ohata Group, formally Sokōkai (素 交会).

Life and career

Ohata, a graduate of the Technical University of Musashi, today's " University of Tokyo city " ( toshi Tōkyō daigaku ), worked after Shushi 's degree (修士, Master) first for Hitachi Seisakusho, where he worked for the union in 1978.

1986 Ohata was elected to Parliament Ibaraki Prefecture and moved in 1990 into national politics when he was the Socialist Party of Japan ( SPJ ) first elected to the second highest share of the vote in the Shūgiin dreimandatigen second constituency Ibaraki. Since the 1996 election, before he joined the newly formed Democratic Party, Ohata candidate in the new single constituency Ibaraki 5, he first attempt to ex- Labour Minister Shumpei Tsukahara (LDP ) lost ( re-elected on the proportional representation block North Kantō ), then but five times in a row won.

In Shūgiin Ohata was one of the Chairmen of the Special Committee for coal mining ( 1997) and the Cabinet Committee ( 2001/ 02). 2002 and 2007 he was among the party leader Naoto Kan and Ozawa Ichirō member of the " next cabinet ", the shadow cabinet of the Democratic Party.

2010 appointed Prime Minister Naoto Kan Ohata as successor by Masayuki Naoshima Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in his cabinet. In the cabinet reshuffle in January 2011 he replaced Sumio Mabuchi, who resigned from the Cabinet, as Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, his successor as Minister of Economics was Banri Kaieda.
