Hitachi
The Hitachi Ltd.. Corporation (Japanese株式会社 日立 制作 所, Kabushiki - gaisha Hitachi Seisakusho ), listed on the Nikkei 225, is a global electronics and engineering company with headquarters in Tokyo ( Japan).
History and Development
Founded in 1910 in the same city of Namihei Odaira (小平 浪 平, Odaira Namihei ) as a workshop for electrical engineering, the company has grown rapidly on to a production facility, in the same year electric motors were manufactured in series. In subsequent years, more products were added, including industrial equipment, household appliances and communication systems, and later consumer electronics and information electronics and software.
In 1959, the American Hitachi America Ltd. Branch was. founded. The European Hitachi Europe office was established in 1982.
Today, Hitachi Ltd is one. Corporation ( July 38th, Booth 20, 2012 ) as a major conglomerate of the 100 largest companies in the world.
Business and Products
In the course of the Group's development many companies were acquired or sold. The activities are divided today into the main business Power Systems Group, Infrastructure and Systems Group Information & Telecommunication Systems Group.
Power Systems Group
Since 2006, Hitachi is working with General Electric in the area of nuclear technology in the joint venture GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy together. In Germany Hitachi is represented, among others the plant constructor Hitachi Power Europe GmbH. Born out of the bankruptcy of Babcock Borsig company based in Oberhausen built in 2007 in Duisburg inner harbor a new corporate headquarters, the Hitachi Power Office.
Infrastructure Systems Group
Since 1920, Hitachi has been working in the construction of railway vehicles and railway systems. See the product Hitachi Transportation Systems. Information & Telecommunication Systems Group
Hitachi Data Systems was founded in 1989 as a joint venture with Electronic Data Systems. Originally HDS Hitachi should sell mainframes. In 1990 the company employed 290 810 employees. In 1999, Hitachi shares of EDS and builds the company since become a provider of storage solutions. With the Japanese company Omron, the joint venture Hitachi - Omron Terminal Solutions ( writer motorized and manual reader / magnetic stripe and smart cards in ISO format ) was founded in 2004 to manufacture and marketing of card readers founded. The subsidiary Hitachi Maxell Ltd.. is a company for sales and production of batteries and storage media. Together with the South Korean company LG was founded in 2001, Hitachi -LG Data Storage for the production of optical drives.
Further business divisions
The semiconductor region in 2003 (now Renesas Electronics) spun off into the newly established joint venture with Mitsubishi Electric Renesas Technology, Hitachi, among others in the the H8 microcontroller family and the SuperH processor architecture earned. 2000, the Hitachi Group got into the consulting business and trades there since 2003 under the name Hitachi Consulting.
Divested businesses

Hitachi also produced hard drives, first 2.5 " notebook hard drives from its own development. , 2003, the IBM hard disk drive business, including all model series was ( Deskstar, Travelstar etc. ) taken and the development department. The acquisition of the resulting Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Ltd. ( HGST ) by Western Digital in 2011 was approved by the European Commission under certain conditions.
